Chinese wind turbine manufacturer CSSC Haizhuang says it’s ready to launch a giant offshore wind turbine with an effect of 16.7MW, reports Recharge News.

According to the media, within the coming five years the OEM also counts on selling several gigawatts of the the coming platform, which upon launch would, assuming no surprises from rivals, be the largest wind turbine model in the world.

The largest of sorts currently on offer is a 16MW machine made by compatriot Ming Yang, and 15MW units are already on supply from Vestas and Siemens Gamesa, with GE Renewable Energy offering a 14MW product.

”China is aiming to hit peak CO2 emissions by 2030, and to achieve CO2 neutrality from 2060, which will lead Chinese offshore wind power to develop dramatically,” says CSSC Haizhuang’s assistant general manager, Kai Zhang, to Recharge.

The 16.7MW model is said to have a rotor diameter of 256 meters.
