Spain’s Acciona Energía plans further development of wind farms in the Australian state of Queensland. Herries Range Wind Farm will reach a capacity of 1GW and will be an extension of the MacIntyre Precinct project, which is already under construction, the company notes in a press release.

The wind project is already the most biggest in Australia, with 180 units of 5.7MW each underway. With the new wind farm, capacity at Acciona Energía’s wind farms will exceed 2GW.

This means that the farms will be capable of supplying energy to 1.4 million households. Total investments in the project run to AUD 4bn (EUR 2.5bn), the company notes.

Today, MacIntyre Wind Precinct consists of two wind farms: 924MW MacIntyre and Ark Energy, of which Accionia Energiá owns 70% and 30%.
