France has unveiled two new offshore wind farm tenders, reports media renews.biz.

One tender concerns a 1GW wind farm that is to be constructed 35 km off the island of Oleron on the French west coast. The other is for 1.5GW wind farm that will be set up 38km off the coast of Normandy in northern France.

Developers have until Dec. 23 to submit applications, after which a three-month hearing process will follow.

The first French offshore wind farm in St. Nazaire in western France recently generated its first power, according to media Splash247.com. It has the capacity to meet power demand of 700,000 people annually.

France’s government has pledged to build 18GW of offshore wind by 2035 and 40GW by 2050, spread across 50 wind farms.

Starting in 2025, France plans to arrange auctions for 2GW of offshore wind every year. So far, the nation has put 5.2GW of offshore wind up for auction.

The winners of the two new projects are expected to be announced in late 2023 or early 2024, writes renews.biz.
