GE has 18MW giant turbine in the making

GE is working on a 17MW-18MW variant of the company’s offshore wind turbine Haliade-X, says the company’s chief exec.

US GE is working on increasing capacity on its offshore flagship turbine Haliade-X to 17-18MW.

At lest if CEO of the giant’s newly formed energy business GE Vernova Scott Strazik is to believed when he spoke to investors about order backlog and the future of the turbine. 

Haliade-X is currently deployed at 12-14MW, reports Recharge News.

”We are getting a very positive reception from the market with our 17-18MW Haliade X variant off what we’re shipping this year,” said Strazik.

Vestas and Siemens Gamesa also commands turbines in the 14-15MW range, while Chinese Mingyang is lining up a 18MW turbine.
