Ørsted completes its largest ever onshore wind and solar project
Ørsted has just completed construction of the 518 MW Helena Energy Center wind and solar project in Texas.
The Helena Energy Center consists of the Helena Wind wind farm which involves 66 wind turbines totaling 268 MW and the Sparta Solar photovoltaic plant with over 600,000 solar panels totaling 250 MWAC.
The project has already secured contracts with several commercial buyers.
”Helena Energy Center is unique because it’s Ørsted’s first combined wind and solar project and the largest project in our global onshore renewables portfolio,” said David Hardy, Executive Vice President and Regional Director for the Americas at Ørsted in a press release.
The project utilizes the Gulf of Mexico’s powerful coastal winds and hours of sunshine to deliver stable energy to the Texas grid.
The commissioning of Helena Energy Center brings Ørsted’s global portfolio of commissioned onshore and solar wind projects to 4.8 GW.
”We look forward to building on this momentum as we commission more onshore projects in the US this year,” says David Hardy from Ørsted.
Ørsted has over 1.3 GW of additional onshore renewables under construction, with approximately 1.1 GW expected to be commissioned in 2024.
