Siemens will stay on top of Vestas in offshore battle for years to come

Ahead of 2020, MHI Vestas will gain ground in Europe's offshore wind market, but measured in megawatts, Siemens will extend its supreme lead. Only one other manufacturer looks able to survive the duel among wind majors.

The distribution in last year's offshore wind market looked like a massacre: Of the 344 offshore turbines connected to Europe's electricity grid in 2016, the name Siemens was printed on 337 nacelles. This corresponds to a market share of 96.4 percent. The other seven turbines with a total 56 MW came from MHI Vestas. No other manufacturer connected a single offshore turbine to the grid, according to new data from the European industry organization WindEurope.
