As soon as possible the Dutch government should investigate the possibility of erecting one more offshore wind farm in 2023 than originally planned. This was passed by a majority vote of 9 out of 17 parties in the Dutch Lower House of Representatives – Tweede Kamer – on Tuesday afternoon. The proposers mention looking into the area IJmuiden Ver, which is 60-80 kilometers from the coast and has a total estimated capacity of 5.6 GW.
"This must be investigated and faster than previously planned. For a long time, the Netherlands has been slowing down while wind turbines have been erected off the coasts in Denmark, the UK, Belgium, and Germany. Now there are plans and financing for the first phase of the Dutch development, but we have to move fast, as the price is declining drastically," Vice President of the party Groenlinks, Liesbeth van Tongeren, tells EnergyWatch.
