The elimination race to secure an offshore wind area in the US state of North Carolina has just been launched. It is worth noting that this is somewhat premature as the auction does not actually begin until next week.
Of the nine companies originally approved by authorities to place bids, only six remain. After Canada's Northland Power decided to withdraw one week ago, Shell and US developer Apex have now followed suit and stepped out of the auction. Dong Energy had decided from the outset not to participate.
