Iberdrola is arming itself for the battle for the coming American offshore wind market. Via its US subsidiary Avangrid, the Spanish energy company has bought into Copenhagen Infrastructure Partner's (CIP) project Vineyard Wind. With the deal, the two partners each own half of the 675 km2 area beyond the coast of Massachusetts, announced the two parties.
"This is a major strategic partnership that combines Avangrid Renewables' US onshore wind development capabilities with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Iberdrola's European offshore wind expertise to give Vineyard Wind a significant advantage in building Massachusetts' first offshore wind project," said Lars Thaaning Pedersen, co-CEO of Copenhagen Offshore Partners, CIP's offshore wind development company, in a press release.
