The state government of Maryland in the US has given the go ahead for not just one but two offshore wind farms. The offshore wind farms from US Wind and Skipjack Offshore Energy will each a combined 368 MW and will solidify offshore wind as a US industry.
The decision means that Maryland waters could be home to some of the first — and by far largest — offshore wind farms in the US. It had been expected that Maryland would choose only one of the proposed wind farms. But having now chosen two wind farms, this means that Maryland will see investments of no less the USD 1.7 billion over coming years flow into the state.
