The US kicks off first offshore wind tender

The tender in Massachusetts has begun, where Dong Energy, Deepwater Wind, and the partnership between Iberdrola and CIP will compete for 400 MW, with the option of bidding double this amount.

Upwards of 800 MW are now being put up for tender in the US state of Massachusetts.

The three supply companies which will buy the electricity produced by the offshore wind turbines have issued the official Request For Proposals (RFP). 400 MW are at stake in the tender, but the companies can contemplate larger projects, if bids for these are cheaper than lesser bids. Potential bidders have until July 26 to declare formal interest while the actual proposal must be ready by Dec. 20.
