Dutch law forces Vattenfall to close coal plant early
Vattenfall has been forced to close its Hemweg-8 coal-fired plant ten years early due to a Dutch law, which forbids the use of coal as fuel in electricity production. However, the Swedish utility welcomes the clairity.
An new law in The Netherlands will phase out the use of coal as fuel in electricity production by 2024. This means that Vattenfall and subsidiary Nuon must close down their power plant Hemweg 8 by that date, ten years before its technical lifespan expires.
