French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that it will be necessary for the French state to assume control of several energy sector companies as part of France's plan to strengthen national independence in terms of supply security, writes Bloomberg News.

Macron made no mention of the companies he had in mind.

However, anonymous sources told Bloomberg that the French government's plan includes Électricité de France, of which the French state already owns 84 percent. According to the sources, the aim is to reorganize the debt-ridden company specializing in nuclear power.

EDF's share price goes up 5 percent Thursday on the Paris stock exchange.
