Major US utilities reapply to merge

After receiving a flat-out "no" on an acquisition attempt, two major energy companies in the US are attempting to create a "merger of equals" in one of the country's largest wind states.

Management in Westar Energy and Great Plains Energy have reached agreement regarding a merger, they announce in a press release.
