Sweden allows construction of offshore wind in Natura 2000 area

Vattenfall has received permission from the authorities in Southern Sweden to continue construction on the Swedish part of Kriegers Flak. This shows that coexistence is possible, says the power company.

The Swedish side of Kriegers Flak has come one step closer to being a reality. One of the challenges faced by Vattenfall's project in the Swedish part of the Baltic sea was that one corner of the proposed offshore wind turbine park overlapped with a designated natural reserve area – Natura 2000. However, the authorities in Southern Sweden's Skåne region have nonetheless approved the utility's environmental impact assessment, giving the project the green light.
