
In October, the EU Commission published an important decision for the future European gas market, where it approved that Russian gas company Gazprom could send more gas through the German Opal pipeline.
The pipeline is the Russians' main access to the north-German, Central European, and Eastern European markets via the current Nord Stream 1 connection, and is thus critical for the establishment of the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
