Chaos in German government nears end with SPD approval

A majority of German social democrats voted in favor of government negotiations with Angela Merkel. Head of the SPD party Martin Schulz rejects dropping German climate targets for 2020.

At an extraordinary party conference in Bonn, a majority in the German social democratic party SPD voted this Sunday to work toward forming a government. Of the 642 delegates, 362 voted to start government negotiations, while 279 voted no and a single vote was invalid, report German media outlets, including Die Welt.
