Japan's Shimizu to build installation vessel for 12 MW wind turbines

Shimizu is preparing to open the Japanese offshore wind market with an investment of around JPY 50 billion (EUR 410 million) to build an installation vessel capable of lifting 2,500 tons.

Japan's offshore wind market seems set to enter full blossom. As Japanese authorities work on cultivating the national plan to expand offshore wind capacity by 10 GW, both foreign and domestic players are flocking to secure projects. This was most recently seen in Obayashi's nomination of Siemens Gamesa as preferred supplier for the 455 MW Northern Akita project.
