Vestas' turbines to produce greener steel

An Eon subsidiary has ordered wind turbines for a German hydrogen project aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from one of Europe's largest steel plants by millions of tons.

CO2 emissions from raw material processing and component production is a major conflict facing the wind energy industry. For instance, manufacturing one Vestas model V136-4.2 MW machine – especially if paired with the tallest 166-meter tower – requires several hundred tons of steel produced in coal-fired blast furnaces.
