Records are made to be broken, and records are being broken time and again in the wind industry as turbines grow continuously bigger.

Such development seems to be continuing with unabated force.

CSSC Haizhuang Wind Power, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, reports having produced the prototype nacelle for its forthcoming H260-18MW machine. As indicated by the name, the platform will have a capacity of 18MW.

According to several media reports, CSSC notes that 80% of the components will be manufactured in-house, including rotor blades, gearbox and generator, thus buffering CSSC against potentially congested supply chains.

In recent years, Chinese wind turbine manufacturers have been at the head of the race when it comes to making the most powerful models. Mingyang has developed a 16MW offshore wind turbine, and though it is merely a prototype at this juncture, commercial production is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2024.

In November last year, Goldwind and partner China Three Gorges revealed the nacelle for their 16MW prototype.
