The Crown Estate is set to lease sites for six wind projects off the British coast on the condition that the leaseholders deliver sufficient power to supply seven million households by 2030, reports Reuters.

Aside from overseeing the monarchy’s public holdings, the Crown Estate also manages the seabed in a variety of territories and is in charge of awarding development rights for renewable energy projects.

Three of the sites are located off the coast of North Wales, Cumbria and Lancashire, while the other three are located in the North Sea off Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

The six locations will contribute with a total of 8GW in the UK’s efforts to reach 50GW in 2030.

German RWE has already come forward as one of the companies which have signed a lease agreement. According to the utility, the projects are in a very early phase of development.
