The US wind turbine market has been slower to recover than previously expected, and in terms of installations, it may take 1-2 years before things really start to happen, says Vestas’ CFO, Hans Martin Smith, in an interview with MarketWire.

”We still have very high expectations for the US market, but we have probably been a little surprised by how long it has taken for it to get back into gear. It will come, but it’s taking longer than we expected a year ago,” admits Hans Martin Smith.

However, the dialog with customers is well underway, which gives reason to hope for an improved market outlook.

”The activity level still looks pretty high in terms of what we talk to customers about, but in terms of installations, well, you’ll probably have to look a year or two ahead before anything really starts to happen,” says Hans Martin Smith.

”When you’ve been expecting it to come sooner, you start to be a little more cautious about putting a timeframe on it, because it’s kind of the same message we gave a year ago - and now it’s been pushed back a bit.”

”But there’s nothing to suggest that it won’t come, when we look at what the underlying commercial activities are in the market,” he adds.
