Uniper books EUR 19bn deficit in 2022

The German utility was hit hard by the energy crisis after being forced to procure gas in the spot market to replace undelivered Russian gas, which weighed heavy on the bottom line.

2022 proved a tumultuous year for Uniper, which initially noted explosive costs for procuring gas in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. When the warring nation subsequently refused to send contractually agreed gas deliveries, the utility headed towards nationalization in order to stay afloat.
