NKT has signed a contract on production and installation of cable systems for high-voltage export going to potential offshore wind project East Anglia THREE (EA3) with a contract value of approx. EUR 250-300m or EUR 190-225m in standard metal prices, NKT writes in a statement Thursday morning.

Today, the project was chosen for a Contract for Difference (CfD) in an allocation round, an important step toward a final order with NKT.

The offshore wind project will be developed by ScottishPower Renewables. A potential final order is contingent upon the customer approving that NKT begin the project, and on the customer’s final investment decision, which is expected to be made no later than Q1 2023.

NKT’s contract will encompass design and production of 320kV direct-current (DC) export cables, including approx. 2x150km offshore cables and approx. 2x40km onshore cables as well as installation via cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria.

”I am very excited about the contract with ScottishPower Renewables, which underlines our customer’s trust in NKT’s ability and knowhow to handle large HVDC turnkey projects,” says NKT Chief Executive Alexander Kara.

The contract does not alter NKT’s financial guidance for 2022.
