China imposes restrictions on rare earth exports

China will soon increase controls on the export of rare earth – essential for industries such as wind turbine manufacturing – in an effort to boost domestic innovation and green development.

It may soon become even more difficult to obtain rare earth elements such as neodymium, which is used in the powerful magnets found in electric cars and gearless wind turbines.
